The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is the most widely used multiple-aptitude test battery in the world. As an aptitude test, the ASVAB measures your strengths, weaknesses, and the potential for future success. The ASVAB also provides you with career information for various civilian and military occupations and is an indicator for success in future endeavors whether you choose to go to college, vocational school, or a military career.

As a SOAR Virginia college access provider, Project Discovery advises students throughout the Commonwealth on academic preparation and financial literacy, as well as helps them apply for college admission and financial aid. Each participant also can earn a SOAR Virginia scholarship of up to $2,000 to apply to post-secondary tuition and fees.

The SAT and the ACT are college assessments that are required as part of applying to four-year colleges and universities. Buckingham County High School gives the SAT each month from October - June The SAT and ACT are also given monthly throughout Central Virginia. The cost of the SAT is $43.00. The cost of the ACT is $39.50. We have a limited number of fee waivers for qualifying students. Seniors would get priority for fee waivers. PSAT icon

The PSAT (a modified assessment to practice for the SAT) is given at Buckingham County High school once a year in November. We strongly recommend that all 10th graders and 11th graders take the PSAT. The cost to take the PSAT is $15; however, a limited number of fee waivers are available for eligible 11th graders. Students can sign-up for PSAT with their school counselor from October 3rd thru 21st.

Upward Bound is a part of the Trio family of federally-funded programs. The program's primary mission is to assist college-bound high school students with developing the skills required to graduate from college. Upward Bound along with its sibling programs are funded through the Higher Education Act of 1965. Upward Bound works in conjunction with The Council for Opportunity in Education, a non-profit organization established to assist individuals in achieving their post-secondary educational goals.
